We know how important it is to feel confident and at ease when placing your child in someone else’s care. This page is here to show you exactly what your child will experience and how we prioritize their well-being and growth.

Our Learning Environment & Safety Practices

At our home-based learning program, we believe children thrive in environments that feel safe, inspired, and rooted in real life. Our classroom is designed to balance structure with freedom, creativity with routine, and nature with nurture. Because we operate from our private residence, we want to clearly communicate how we prioritize safety, transparency, and a nurturing, family-style atmosphere.

Home Learning Environment

Our school day takes place in the main floor classroom of our home, in a dedicated space designed to feel welcoming, calm, and stimulating for young learners. Our home has stairs, but the main classroom, restroom, and play access are all located on the ground floor. Students are not permitted upstairs, and a childproof gate helps enforce this boundary.

Other Adults on the Property

My husband runs a separate small business from our garage with one employee. While they work from home during school hours, they are:

1) Not affiliated with the school

2) Do not enter the classroom or interact with students

3) Work entirely in the garage, which is blocked off from the rest of the home by childproof gates

4) They use the upstairs restroom, while students use the downstairs restroom

5) The garage is not accessible to students during the day

6) The front door remains locked and has a childproof latch at the top during school hours

Background checks can be made available for both adults working on the property, as requested.

Our Classroom Pet

We have one medium-sized Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix, Haku, who serves as our classroom companion and emotional support animal. He is:

1) Fully vaccinated
2) Highly socialized with children
3) A great companion for emotional regulation and play

While he is trained, he may become excited and jump, which could occasionally lead to minor accidental scratches. We will teach students how to engage with animals respectfully and confidently.

Outdoor Play, Swimming & Nature Learning

We believe deeply in outdoor free play and embodied learning. Nature is one of our greatest teachers, and we integrate it into both structured lessons and unstructured play every day.

Pool Time (Hot Weather Months)
1)
We have a gated, locked pool that remains inaccessible unless in use

2) Swimming is supervised and scheduled after lunch

3) Water play encourages sensory development, confidence, and joy

Park Time (Cooler Months)
We walk as a group to the local park just a few streets over

Students are supervised but not directed—we value unstructured play and healthy risk-taking

Our dog may accompany us as part of the class experience

Outdoor Classroom & Nature Study

We regularly hold lessons outside to deepen our connection to the living world.

Either our fenced backyard or the local park will serve as our “outdoor classroom” for nature studies, story time, journaling, and quiet reflection.

During this time, students learn to observe, identify, and interact with the natural environment in ways that build curiosity, stewardship, and grounding.

Security & Monitoring

We have exterior security cameras installed around the property

We are also installing a classroom monitoring system to allow parents to check in remotely—more details coming soon

I (Haley) hold current CPR and First Aid certifications, and children are never left unsupervised

Field Trips

At our learning center, we believe the world is our classroom. Field trips are a core part of our curriculum—offering hands-on learning, social exploration, and joyful family connection beyond the classroom walls.

Quarterly Adventures

Each quarter, we’ll take a special field trip to one of the following locations:

Phoenix Zoo – Animal observation, conservation education, and wild wonder

Phoenix Children’s Science Center – Interactive exhibits, STEM play, and discovery-based learning

Phoenix Children’s Art Museum – Imaginative installations, hands-on creativity, and visual expression

Love2Play – Indoor play that supports sensory development, coordination, and social bonding

Parent Participation
We highly encourage a parent or guardian to attend each field trip. These shared experiences are designed to be family-centered, deepening the connection between child, parent, and the learning process.

Parents are welcome to carpool with others in the group

Parents are responsible for their child’s admission fees

Siblings are welcome unless otherwise noted

All children are expected to be supervised by their own guardian, unless a parent is unable to attend. *In this case, children will be supervised by the educator (Haley) or another trusted parent attending the trip

Our Values

We know that choosing a learning environment for your child is an act of trust. That’s why we commit to:

1) Clear, ongoing communication

2) Safe, clean, and inspiring physical space

3) Honoring your child’s emotional and physical well-being

4) Blending nature, home, and learning into a truly holistic school day
